The purpose of guided reading is to teach students to read increasingly difficult texts with understanding and fluency. Children learn how to think about a text and be able to apply learned strategies in other reading situations. Guided reading instruction is only one part of the literacy program; the entire program also includes language/word study and writing workshops.
INTERVENTION STEPS: The Repeated Review of Spelling Words with Shared Rime intervention has both a reading and spelling component: Have the Student Read the Words Aloud. During the reading component of the intervention session, the teacher ensures that the flash-cards of the same word-family (shared rime) are grouped together.
